What is realistic roleplay...?
Realistic Roleplay or RRP is a form of roleplay in star stable, where you pick a role (in this case an equestrian, or horseback rider) and play it out, often in a group of other people. It's called "realistic" because the idea is to use terms, tack, clothes, horses, etc. you would use in real life in the day-to-day activities of an active equestrian. To be successful as such, you might participate in shows held in global or lessons, where they will often say it is "rrp".
You can also watch a flat show to get yourself acquainted with the idea and overall flow. There are many videos of starstablers making rrp videos, as if they were vlogging as an equestrian, sometimes about the shows, a certain routine, etc. I would recommend watching both real vlogs of equestrians and implementing it into star stable and watching rrp videos of star stable equestrians. You can also find a vast community of role-players on a common social media platform, Instagram! I recommend searching the hashtag #ssorrp or #realisticroleplay to find some accounts, pictures, etc. I will provide links to videos below!

A quick guide to 'dressing the part'
Clothing
|
Tack & Gear
|
With your wardrobe when dressing for rrp, think "real life". You wouldn't wear sandals to ride a horse, so don't wear them to a rrp lesson on sso! With rrp, it's all in the detail. Literally. The more detail on a piece of clothing, the better, we love logos and fabric textures! Think about the weather of that specific day, and where you are riding, as well as what you are doing. If it's cold, wear a sweater, and if it's warm, wear a polo. T-shirts can be worn for trail rides and such but do not take them to a show or lesson, the key is to try to stay professional. Neutral colors are your best friend, we love browns blacks and whites, we tend to stay away from bright and flashy or neon, sticking to blue, red, green, grey, black, white, purple, and occasionally pink and yellow (just don't blind anyone!). Don't wear jeans to a show, but say yes to jeans on trail rides! Do wear riding jackets to shows, but keep them safe and nice until then.

Again, pay attention to detail! Logos, neutral colors. I like Governor's fall to find the best tack, but the newer jumping tack works well too! Make sure you have both a jumping and dressage saddle, and a white blanket is a necessity. You can match legwraps with shirts, so keep a white blanket. Pay attention to detail and you should be fine, given that information it's easy to find some tack options for your gorgeous mount, so happy shopping!

Horses-
Now, in real life, nobody has the same exact horse so your options for mount are endless! However, while the choice is yours to make, there are some recommendations... here are some horses we ADORE:
Akhal Teke - This horse is a newer model so it is very detailed and the gaits are poised and elegant, a beautiful horse for a dressage or flat show that can show off the magnificent trot, not to mention that gorgeous shine!
Arabian - This is another wonderful breed that a lot of players adore, and its gaits are smooth and collected, so it is another wonderful choice.
Chincoteague pony - The detail on these horse's coats are beautiful, and they have some nice gaits. They also seem to have that spunky pony attitude in their animations that we can't get enough of!
Connemara pony - an all-time favorite, the Connemara pony is not too short, not too tall, its gaits are smooth and coordinated and it has many gorgeous coat colors to choose from (though I find flebitten to be most common). A classic choice!
ETB - This one is an oldie but a goodie, the ETB is a common and well-known breed in real life, making it a perfect rrp horse! It's gaits are loose and while the textures and animations are not up-to-date it is still a good horse to use!
Fjord - While you may not see this breed commonly in real life, players have loved this horse since the dawn of sso, and with its updates, why shouldn't they get a chance to show off? We think the fjord is another splendid addition!
Hanoverian - This horse has very nice gaits, and a lovely array of coats. They are a beautiful warmblood in sso, with excellent stamina and jumping capabilities.
Jorvik Warmblood - This horse is an obvious yes! For one, every player has a jwb in their stables so it's easy to get your hands on one of these magnificent horses, and since sso has updated them their animations and gaits are stunning, with a vast choice for coat colors.
Lipizzaner - This horse is another oldie, but their gaits are just as lovely as any newer model and they have the special levade movement, making them your perfect dressage companion.
Lusitano - The grace, the elegance, this horse is screaming to show off with that majestic piaffe and their adorable Russian nose. How can you refuse such a beauty?
Trakehner - With many coat colors, gorgeous textures, and stunning animations it's no wonder this horse is one of our favorites. For some reason, they just look so realistic!
Of course it is not necessary you get these horses they just have certain qualifications that make them a lovely ride in sso <3 We generally don't recommend draft horses like the Clydesdale, Shire, or North Swedish (they would be a bit harder for a rider to control.. and for that matter to mount!) but it is up to you and older models just because the gaits might look odd. We definitely do not think a Jorvik wild horse or the new star breed would fit well into our realistic roleplay either, just because they are magical and that's not very common in the real world. You can, in fact, change the breeds of these horses too. Some rrplayers like to change a Trakehenner to an etb because they like the gaits or look of the trak more but still want an etb, this can be an option too, so long as the breeds are very similar! Thank you for reading :)
These are simply recommendations, not necessities. It is always the riders' discretion of their choice of mount.
